日本のちゃのゆ (Japanese Tea Ceremony)

わたしはAsian Art HumanitiesのクラスとうらせんけちゃのゆCenter of NYへいきました。クラスで日本のお茶のwareについてをならうったから、そのCenterへいきました。

日本語で「tea ceremony」は「ちゃのゆ」です。

日本のお茶masterがなりたったら、たくさん勉強しなければなりません。五年ぐらいにintermediate levelです。

Sen no Rikyū (千利休)は　今のちゃのゆをつくりました。それは日本にたいせつなしゅうかんです。

はじめに、くつをぬがなければなりません。Then, you enter a small room where you take off other belongings. たとえば、とけいをぬぎます。This is because it ties you to the temporal, outside world. つぎ、にわをさんぽうします。このにわにfountainがあります。そのfountainでかおとくちをwashをします。Finally, you go to another room to sit down. お茶をのむまえに、じゅんびをたくさんします。

There are many steps in the tea ceremony and each step is done very slowly so that you can notice every step of the tea ceremony. It is also important for one to observe the teaware being used in the ceremony. Each piece is meant to display わび and さび, which mean poverty, agedness, and transience. Therefore the teaware is not evenly glazed and often has many pockmarks. You are meant to observe all of it imperfections.

お茶をのむまえに、おかしをたべます。そして、お茶をのむまえに　you turn to the next person and「おさきにどうぞ」といいます。お茶をのむ時、teacupをにど(twice)まわしなければなりません。You do this to show respect to your server.

お茶はとてもおいしくて、ちゃのゆがとてもおもしろいです。Everyone should go!
